Recreation

The Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) was created in 1947 and incorporated in 1951 as a provincially-recognized, not-for-profit, volunteer-driven recreation organization. Today, the ORFA has over 7,000 card-bearing members who operate and manage recreation facilities in municipalities, educational institutions, government agencies, First Nations communities and in the private recreation sector.

The purpose of the Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia (RFABC) is to promote general interest, education, safe operating standards, professionalism and support among recreation facility operators, Commission and Board members in the successful operations of arenas, auditoriums, community centres, swimming pools, stadiums, parks and other recreation facilities.

Since 1996, Recreation Connections Manitoba has been working hard to provide a united and strong voice for recreation. We want to be on the leading edge as a profession and state loud and clear the value and benefits of recreation. We believe our role as professionals is vital in sending the “Benefits” message across our province.

One of our goals is to ensure that the Island’s recreational facilities maintain the healthiest environment possible. Recreation PEI achieves this standard by: Supporting proper training and certification for staff. Overseeing Safe Physical Environments, e.g. safety netting, carbon monoxide detectors, Automatic External Defibrillation Units (AED's). Encouraging Energy Efficiency. Developing the 'Greening' of facilities to reduce electricity costs and encourage environmental stewardship. To apply for a grant to have an Energy Audit from the PEI Government click here.

World Urban Parks is the organization to go to for international advice, support and getting connected with urban park, open space and recreation issues, people and activity. We combine the experience of our members and partners with opportunities to help build urban parks leadership and bring about significant improvements in cities where rapid urbanization is occurring.
